ODCBVI 2011 State Convention

Overview

This year's convention will be held on Saturday, November 19th, at the Inova Fairfax Physician's conference center:

Annandale, Virginia

Registrations for the convention will be handled by email and will be confirmed upon receipt of your payment if applicable. The registration fee is $15 if you plan to have a box lunch; free if not, but we still insist that you register so that we will be able to plan for the appropriate amount of seating.

Directions will be published in a separate email, as will the agenda for the annual meeting and the box lunch selections.

Registration for the convetion can be emailed to John McCann. Once John receives the registration he will contact you with the address to send payment for lunch (if you are requesting lunch be provided).

10:10-10:55: A Survey of Useful and Fun IPhone Apps; Email by Telephone John McCann, Mark Reumann, Ed Nicholson

A discussion of both useful and fun iPhone aps, plus a presentation on a service which allows persons to post emails by speaking messages over the telephone.

10:55-11:05: Break

11:05-12:15: ODCBVI Annual Meeting

Annual meeting agenda to be distributed separately.

12:15-1:15 Lunch

1:15-2:00: The PC / The Mac: A comparison

Rebecca Bridges and Jon Avila
A brief overview and demonstration of these diferent computers from an accessibility standpoint; capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses

2:00-2:15: Break

2:15-3:00: The Rich World of Downloadable Content

Doug Powell, John McCann
A discussion of the NLS BARD service, NFB's Newsline, Bookshare, audible, podcasts, described movies, and other sources of downloadable reading material.

3:00-3:10: Break; End of the 2011 ODCBVI Convention

3:10-4:00: Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired Public Hearing on the DBVI State Rehabilitation Plan

People will be afford the opportunity to offer comments on the DBVI state plan.
